One of the more accessible non-traditional literary lenses is psychoanalytic criticism. We all have mothers, right? We all die, right? (But take it from this woman, don't date a psychology major.) Tyson deals with two major modes, Freudian and Lacanian. Freudian is more familiar and easier, but Lacanian has its advantages, too. It all depends on the text you're dealing with.
